The quarry is, however, in mountainous terrain, and I don't know about public transportation from surrounding areas. Search the Web for Carrara Marble Tour (one word). Italy's Web extension is IT. There is a link on TripAdvisor for "Carrara Marble Tour". Once there, click on the British flag for English translation. Complete information about tours is on that site. The Carrara Tour company can provide info about how to get to the welcome center, where the tour company greets tour members. Try to avoid a rainy day. Full sun is best. Enjoy!

You can, however, contact the quarry welcome center and learn when guided tours are available. Since this is a working quarry, visitors are not allowed during blasting, sort of the way South Dakota's Crazy Horse Memorial prohibits visitors to the construction site. Plan your visit according to scheduled tours. You'll find a wealth of information. The mountain from which the single block of marble Michelangelo chose for the 'David' sculpture is long gone. When there, notice how about a third of each mountain peak still retains trees. Government regulations prevent leveling the entire mountain, to allow natural weather patterns. If the mountains are razed, rainfall would diminish given that lack of updrafts would not cause condensation. I left the site with a new appreciation for this beautiful stone. I learned the reason sculptors chose this is the relative softness compared to igneous material, like granite.
