We tried to visit but the road was closed. We even drove back around through MO to see if we could get in that way but the entire road was closed. We were very disappointed.Full review by Jan N

We thought this would be the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic of local BBQ lunch. We found several wasps nests in the picnic pavilion and viewing tower and then suddenly the whole family was covered in…Full review by Bob T

Stopped here for a picnic lunch while traveling on I-57. The pretty, geographically significant location not far off the highway made it a good picnic spot. There is a tower overlook that looks like …Full review by tolandowski

My wife and I tried to visit Ft. Defiance in October, 2014, but it was closed and appeared to have been closed for quite a while. Overgrown and dirty, in disrepair, a big disappointment. We are planning a trip from the North Carolina mountains (our home) in October, 2016, to Rochelle, Illinois, in October, 2016, and would like to come back down and check out Ft. Defiance again. Is it now open for visitors? We are not camping, but would like to use the picnic and confluence observation areas. We are also planning to stop in Wickliffe and Paducah, Kentucky. Thank you for any information

We were just there a couple of weeks ago and the park was open, recently mowed, and clean although a bit shabby. There's no problem climbing up to the upper levels of the observation platform, and the picnic tables are fine. There are even some picnic tables that are under cover and sheltered from the sun and rain. The signage about Lewis and Clark is pretty good, and there is also a sculpture relating to their visit. We really enjoyed our stop at the park because the sight of the differently colored waters from both rivers coming together is astonishing, and the barge traffic is also a lot of fun to watch.
Q:
Can I launch my mo. Boat at Fort defiance?
A:
There is a boat ramp in Cairo. Go to 8th St. and turn west. Go through the gap in the levee wall. There is a boat ramp on other side of the wall.
