A man in South Carolina told a Latino he would be sent back to Mexico, and in Pennsylvania three men tried to use the ruse at a Temple University residence hall and a cookie shop, police said.

At least three people in three states have recently been charged with pretending to be immigration agents, authorities say.

A Temple University student has been charged with impersonating police and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement personnel over the weekend in Philadelphia.

Temple University student Aidan Steigelmann, 22, and two other unidentified suspects were allegedly imitating ICE agents on the Temple University campus on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Two wore shirts with “ICE” and “Police” in white lettering. Aidan Steigelmann, 22, a Temple student, is on interim suspension and charged with an impersonation offense by Philadelphia police.

As tensions continue to grow over recent ICE raids across the country, police at Temple University are investigating a “disappointing" disruption on campus this weekend.

The Philadelphia Police Department said officers responded to a campus residence hall over the weekend after receiving reports of “suspicious males identifying themselves as Police/ICE agents.”
