More than 120 people have been killed after a powerful earthquake struck a remote region of Tibet on Tuesday morning, with tremors felt across the Himalayas in neighboring Nepal, Bhutan and parts of northern India.

More than 400 people trapped by a strong earthquake in the foothills of the Himalayas have been rescued, Chinese officials said, while over 30,000 residents have been relocated, as the search for survivors entered a second day on Wednesday.

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Tibet on January 7th, killing at least 126 people. The quake’s epicentre was in Dingri county, some 50 miles from the base of Mount Everest and near the holy city of Shigatse.
