Given the increasing frequency of such disasters, the government aims to set up better early warning systems and improve emergency response times

Following the avalanche, a massive rescue operation has been launched. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have been deployed to the site.

An avalanche hit near Mana in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Friday (28 February), leaving at least 41 Border Roads Organisation (BRO) workers feared trapped. Around 57 workers were reportedly present at the site when the avalanche struck, The New Indian Express reported.

Eight labourers have been confirmed dead following an avalanche in Uttarakhand, while 46 were successfully rescued. The nearly 60-hour rescue operation involved over 200 personnel and advanced equipment.

The body of the eighth worker missing in the Mana (Chamoli) avalanche incident was recovered by the Army on Sunday afternoon during the ongoing search operation, officials said. Earlier in the day, three more bodies were found as rescue teams continued searching for the last missing worker.
