Three people died from floodwater in McDowell County, County Commissioner Michael Brooks confirmed in a livestreamed news conference Tuesday.

West Virginia State Police have confirmed that the person killed in the flood this weekend is from McDowell County. Troopers said the man was in a vehicle that was washed away by high water. His body was found in the Tug River Monday.

According to the release, Senior Trooper K. M. Saddler conducted a death investigation and identified the deceased as an occupant of a silver Chevrolet Silverado that had reportedly been driving in high water and washed into the Tug River on Sunday, February 16. The truck was located a short time later in the water near Coney Island in Welch.
