Unknown perpetrators shot Miguel Uribe, a Colombian senator and presidential hopeful, in the back at a campaign event Saturday in the capital, Bogotá, according to his party.

Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, a possible candidate in the country’s presidential election next year, was shot and wounded at a campaign rally in Bogota on Saturday, authorities said.

Uribe's Centro Democratico party condemned the attack, saying that it "endangers the life of a political leader... democracy and freedom in Colombia".
