Reversing course, the Trump administration on Thursday restored funding for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, a federally financed news organization born out of American efforts to counter Soviet propaganda during the Cold War.

The US Agency for Global Media didn’t have the authority to unilaterally stop funding Radio Free Asia, a lawsuit filed in federal court says.

The U.S. Agency for Global Media cannot “force RFE/RL to shut down,” the judge wrote, “even if the President has told them to do so.”
