During his senior season, DeLong became the first Tennessee player to win the Outland Trophy, which is awarded to college football's top interior lineman. He was also a two-time All-American (1963-64) and was named Most Valuable Player of the 1965 Senior Bowl. DeLong was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993.
