The dragons from Game of Thrones may be fictitious, but some of these real-life animals aren't so different. The closest were the pterosaurs, whose name literally translates to "winged lizard".

and may refer to Chinese sailors’ tales of real dragons on a few small Indonesian islands. As well as Komodo, they are found on Rinca, Padar and Flores, where the lizard colouring is lighter.
