The Wellesley girls indoor track and field team has gone through a lot of changes over the last eight years. But what hasn’t changed is its ability to win at a high level. The Raiders proved it on Thursday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Wellesley didn't win a single individual event at the D2 indoor track championship. That didn't stop the Raiders from continuing an impressive streak.

Hillhouse, which now has won three Class M titles in a row and its 18th class title in program history, clinched the top spot in the final race of the day, winning the 4x400 with a time of 4:10.07. Hillhouse finished with 45 points, ahead of second-place Joel Barlow (37 points) and third-place Mercy (35 points).

The underclassmen scored points in bunches on Wednesday, with their best efforts coming in the long distances. That effort powered the program to a Division I Indoor Track & Field title at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

Sometimes young athletes can produce unexpected performances. Sometimes they even lead teams to newfound heights. Lexington relied on its underclassmen for support Wednesday, and was rewarded with the best prize of all – a state championship.

Killingly’s Jermiah Smith won both the 55 meter hurdles (7.72) and long jump (20-06.50), while Norwich Free Academy’s Joal Barros won the high jump (6-06) at the Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I Indoor Track and Field championships on Saturday at Coast Guard.

The Raiders' eighth straight crown came despite only winning the final two events of the night, the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays. Algonquin won by a point when Peabody dropped the baton on the final relay.
