The number of shootings in the first three months of 2025 was the lowest since 1994, but rape numbers were up and more children were shot, according to police statistics.

Overall, major crime was down 11% in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period a year ago, led by a drop of nearly 35% in homicides, a decline of nearly 23% in robberies as well as dip of 13.7% percent in grand larceny, the latest NYPD statistics revealed.

Subway crime decreased to the second-lowest level in 27 years, with major crime dropping 18.1% (465 vs. 568) during the first quarter, and zero murders in the transit system for the first time in seven years. During the first quarter, there was a surge in NYPD patrol of subway platforms and trains to combat crime and violence.
