Nissan (7201.T) is betting on a new version of its Leaf electric vehicle (EV) to revive its fortunes, having gone from mass-market EV pioneer to laggard since its first model entered showrooms in 2010.

TOKYO -- Nissan Motor will launch a new-generation Leaf electric vehicle in the U.S. later this year, the company announced on Tuesday, as part of efforts to fill out its product lineup in one of its most important markets.
