North Carolina lawmakers agreed Wednesday to spend another $524 million on still-pressing needs from Hurricane Helene's historic flooding nearly six months ago, with an emphasis on home and private road repairs,

It has been six months since Hurricane Helene unleashed biblical flooding and tree-snapping winds across the Southeast, and areas such as hard-hit Black Mountain, N.C., continue to struggle.

The Carolina Hurricanes scored a notable goal in its efforts to assist western North Carolina communities left destroyed by Hurricane Helene back in September.

The wildfires come as many continue to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene just six months ago.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered in several counties across both states as multiple wildfires ravaged parts of North and South Carolina.

Firefighters have announced progress on containing two of the largest wildfires burning in the North Carolina mountains, but are warning that fire danger remains from dry and windy conditions.
