Texas’ biggest November matchups are now set after the primary runoffs. Ken Paxton will face Democrat James Talarico in the U.S. Senate race. As results are finalized in the May 2026 primary runoffs, the Nov. 3 general election matchups are being set.
The matchup pitted two candidates with similar politics but who ran on widely divergent backgrounds and campaign promises.
Cornyn was the top vote-getter in the March 3 primary, but strong showings by two GOP challengers forced the four-term incumbent to Tuesday’s head-to-head matchup with Paxton, the second-place finisher who received President Donald Trump’s endorsement on May 19. The winner will face Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the general election.
