In honor of Mother’s Day, it seems only fitting to acknowledge some of the many women who gave birth and daily guidance to the next generation of jazz musicians — some who are now parents themselves.

He says he doesn’t have to because I’m not his mother. Yet he expects me to wish my stepmother a happy Mother’s Day. My father won’t wish me happy Mother’s Day, saying it’s because I’m not his mother.
