A police department in Maine said one of its reserve officers was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement even though he had legal authorization to work in the U.S.

ICE accused the police department in Old Orchard Beach of “knowingly” hiring an immigrant who is in the country illegally, which the police chief denied.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Old Orchard Beach Police Department reserve Officer Jon Luke Evans, of Jamaica, on July 25.
