The Islamic holiday, Eid al-Fitr, commemorates the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from food and drink while focusing on God-consciousness, self-reflection and self-improvement. Ramadan started on Feb. 18.
