Alan Osmond, the eldest member of showbiz family the Osmonds and songwriter behind chart-topping hits including 'One Bad Apple' and 'Crazy Horses,' died Monday. He was 76.

The Osmonds band consisted of brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay, with younger brothers Donny and Jimmy eventually joining the group.

Alan Osmond, eldest of the Osmond Brothers, dies at the age of 76 at his Utah home surrounded by family. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987.

Merrill Osmond announced the news Tuesday morning, telling fans that Alan's "life was not measured in years, but in love, sacrifice, and purpose."

"Alan was our leader in every sense of the word. His tireless work helped build everything we became," Donny Osmond said in an emotional tribute.

Alan Osmond has died at the age of 77, according to a statement sent from a spokesperson for the Osmond family.
