The Phoenix Suns officially traded forward Josh Okogie and three second-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for backup center Nick Richards and a second-round pick, per ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania.
There was some belief Richards the Suns just snagged their new starting center, and Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro says Richards will indeed be inserted into the lineup when ready. ESPN's Shams Charania also is reporting the same thing.
Additionally, the Suns are slated to get a second-round pick back from Charlotte, per Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports. Phoenix may not have a bigger need on their roster than the center position — rolling with the duo of Jusuf Nurkic and Mason Plumlee has just not worked — and Richards should be able to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
It's not the big name at the top of Phoenix's list, but they also wanted an upgrade in athleticism at center and Richards brings that.
