The heads of the Jan. 6 committee say they're grateful for the decision by President Joe Biden to pardon them “not for breaking the law but for upholding it.”

President Biden issued pre-emptive pardons for Dr. Anthony Fauci and others who may have faced scrutiny under the incoming Donald Trump administration.

The pardons by Biden came as incoming President Trump has repeatedly attacked Fauci, Milley and the Jan. 6 committee and called for prosecution of his enemies.

President Biden said the pardons are not an "acknowledgment that any individual engaged in any wrongdoing" but rather protect individuals from "unjustified and politically motivated prosectutions."

Biden said the pardons are intended to guard against “baseless and politically motivated investigations” into these “dedicated, selfless public servants.”
