The last formal survey conducted in the Northern Lower Peninsula was in 2019. The idea to hold the survey was not triggered by any specific sightings or uptick in reports.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is asking for the public's help to conduct a community-based wolf survey in the Lower Peninsula.

Before someone shot and killed a wolf in Southwest Michigan last year, officials had no reason to believe any had established in the Lower Peninsula. The DNR is now looking for proof.
