Microsoft Recall feature. Image: Microsoft. Microsoft announced on April 25 that its controversial Recall feature is now available to the general public, nearly a year after it was first introduced.

Microsoft first announced Recall at a May 2024 event at its headquarters in Redmond, Wash., where the company debuted several upcoming Windows features to complement its newly announced Copilot+ PCs.

Microsoft is also adding an icon to the system tray. This will indicate whether Recall is currently collecting snapshots, and you’ll be able to pause this whenever you want.

Recall is being rolled out to Microsoft’s Windows Insider Release Preview channel after months of testing in the more experimental and less-stable channels, just like most other Windows features.
