Hundreds gathered at the Wyandotte County Courthouse Wednesday to honor the man “who could light up your darkest day with just a smile.”

Across both state lines, law enforcement agencies and public officials are paying tribute to fallen Wyandotte County Sheriff's Deputy Elijah Ming, who was shot and killed in Kansas City, Kansas, while responding to a call on Saturday.

Law enforcement officials said the killing of Elijah Ming, 34, was another example in the spate of domestic violence calls and shootings this summer. If convicted, Shawn Harris, 38, faces a life sentence or the death penalty.
