As we enter August, the Atlantic Hurricane Season really begins to ramp up. The National Hurricane Center says on average, 86% of named storms happen after August 2.

Tropical Storm Dexter, the fourth named system of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, formed late Sunday night well east of North Carolina. The system is now moving away from the U.S. East Coast, posing no land threat, but it signals a shift toward more frequent tropical development in the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Andrea formed in the middle of the Atlantic and never impacted land. Tropical Storm Barry formed off the east coast of Mexico, impacting the country with flooding. Tropical Storm Chantal formed off the coast of the Carolinas. Chantal impacted the Carolinas with flooding and spurred several tornadoes.
