Some 1,900 leading researchers accused the Trump administration of conducting a “wholesale assault on U.S. science” that threatens the health and safety of Americans.

The US is at risk of losing an entire generation of scientists as a result, the signatories warn. More than 1,200 scientists are already thinking about leaving the US because of the Trump administration’s drastic actions, making up 75 percent of respondents in a separate poll by the journal Nature.

In a letter, several members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine warn Trump’s overhaul of U.S. science has created a “climate of fear.”

In a survey of U.S.-based scientists conducted by Nature, 75% of respondents said they were “considering leaving the country following the disruptions to science” brought about by President Donald Trump’s administration.
