The complaint furthers USAA’s long history of court battles with banks such as Wells Fargo and PNC over patent disputes. Truist and Discover more recently signed licensing agreements to resolve rifts.

Financial services provider United Services Automobile Association sued competitor Regions Bank in Texas federal court on Tuesday for allegedly violating its patent rights in mobile check-deposit technology.

USAA is going after another major U.S. bank for allegedly infringing on patents the San Antonio insurance and financial services company holds on technologies that allow customers to deposit checks using their cellphones and tablets.

This isn’t the first time the national financial institution, headquartered in San Antonio’s Med Center, has pursued legal action over its remote deposit capture technology.

USAA claims to have developed the mobile capture deposit technology and has already successfully sued Discover and Truist, among others.
