The details of the House settlement with the NCAA may not have finished, but Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill into law Thursday that will end the NCAA's decades-old prohibition on universities paying players directly.

Gov. Greg Abbott proceeded with a new NIL law, House Bill 126, allowing universities to compensate student-athletes over 17 with NIL contracts once they've enrolled in college. The proposed bill received a two-thirds majority vote in both chambers of the Texas legislature, thus making the law go into effect immediately.
