Republican leaders are aiming for quick negotiations over needed changes to the newly unveiled Senate tax bill which lacks the votes to secure majorities in both chambers as written.

The Senate GOP’s sweeping tax bill would keep a popular property tax deduction limited to $10,000, drawing the ire of lawmakers from high-tax states.

The proposals from Republicans keep in place the current $10,000 deduction of state and local taxes, called SALT, drawing quick blowback from GOP lawmakers from New York and other high-tax states.
