It's so hot that hydrogen becomes ionised into plasma so that you have protons and electrons as separate bodies, rather than bound together into atoms. As those different charges interact, they can lose energy which is radiated as the photons that we see.

Sep 4, 2011 · Dave - They're very, very unlikely to be hot enough to be radiating more heat than the sun is putting down on them because the sun has got a kilowatt per square metre and you're going to have to be very, very warm before you're emitting that much heat. So, I think you're still better off being in white.

Oct 25, 2011 · Distance of sun from Earth. I was out, walking my dog this morning, just as the sun came up. There was a thin cloud cover, but the sun's rays were coming through. I noticed that the light rays came in a fanned pattern. If I trace the rays back to a point of origination, I determine that the sun is maybe a mile up in the sky.

For example,with a matt black side, facing away from the Sun, its temperature would be quite a bit lower than with a shiny face in the shade. A poor absorber is also a poor radiator at any particular wavelength.
