🌋🟡 Yellowstone’s Moving Ground Traced To Magma Just 4 KM Down 🟡🌋 A new study analysing 25 years of Yellowstone ground movement has linked repeated cycles of uplift and subsidence to a shallow magma source around 4 km beneath the caldera, with a second source much deeper below. Earlier seismic research also detected melt-rich material at almost the same shallow depth. 🌋🟡 Yellowstone’s August Update Is In 🟡🌋 USGS recorded 61 earthquakes, subtle uplift across parts of the caldera, several eruptions from Black Diamond Pool, and two eruptions from Giant Geyser during August. Yellowstone remains at Alert Level NORMAL, but the month still brought plenty of activity worth watching.
