Just above Earth lies one of the most hostile environments in near-space: the Van Allen radiation belts. These are huge regions filled with high-energy charged particles, mainly electrons and protons, trapped by Earth’s magnetic field. They were discovered in 1958 by the Explorer 1 satellite and are named after physicist James Van Allen. The belts form two main layers. The inner belt is dominated by energetic protons and extends roughly from 1,000 to 12,000 kilometers above Earth. The outer belt

Moon Landing Myth: The Van Allen Belts 🚀 Some folks wonder: “If the Van Allen Belts are full of radiation, how did astronauts survive the trip to the Moon?” Let’s talk about it! The Van Allen Belts are zones of charged particles surrounding Earth, held in place by its magnetic field. They do contain radiation—but astronauts didn’t hang out there long enough for it to be dangerous. Apollo crews passed through the belts quickly—spending just a couple of hours in the “danger zone.” That short trip

Sky_Go on Instagram: "Jupiter is the king of planets, and its magnetic field reflects that status. NASA discovered that Jupiter’s magnetosphere is the largest structure in the solar system besides the Sun itself, stretching millions of kilometers into space. Inside this bubble, charged particles from volcanic Io and the solar wind accelerate to extreme speeds, forming radiation belts far stronger than Earth’s Van Allen belts. These belts are so intense that unshielded spacecraft electronics woul
